EVENT PREVIEW – NORTH CAROLINA’S PREMIER RUNNING EXPERIENCE!
The Wachovia Tar Heel 10 Miler
April 9, 2011
Whether you’ve been running all summer long through the intense heat – or waiting for the cooler temperature that fall brings – now is the perfect time to start training for the 2011 Wachovia Tar Heel 10 Miler. On Saturday April 9, 2011, 3500 runners are expected to run in Endurance Magazine’s landmark running event in Chapel Hill.
Last year history was made when 2200 runners took to the streets of Chapel Hill and ran through downtown and historic neighborhoods ultimately finishing in UNC’s Kenan Football Stadium.
REFINED COURSE (Even Faster!)
The 2011 course will still feature the best of Chapel Hill, but has been refined and is even faster with a thrilling mixture of flats, uphills and downhills. And speaking of uphills, now is the time to head for those hills and start training for the Laurel Hill Challenge. Improved for 2011, this is a competition within the race to see who has the fastest time up Laurel Hill with awesome awards for this special category.
CRASH THE PARTY!
And if that’s not enough excitement for you – the unique “Crash the Party” Contest is back! This allows runners who may be affiliated with other (than UNC) ACC schools to represent their colors with custom race bibs! Last year the Duke Blue Devils won the digital PARTY CRASHER CUP. This is a great way to make a statement in Carolina Blue Country and adds to the collegiate spirit of the race.
10 – THE PERFECT DISTANCE
The ten mile distance is a great way to challenge yourself if you’re used to running 5k and 10k distances; or, if you’re training for a late spring half- or full marathon, the early April ten miler is an opportune time to run a fast race before your taper. Or even after running one of the several late winter Marathons – this is your chance to put all the distance training to a speed test. And if you’re just getting started running, try the Fleet Feet Sports 4 Mile Run – there is something in this race is for EVERYONE!
