COURSE DESCRIPTION
This Boston-qualifying 26.2-mile course in High Point, the Home Furnishings Capital of the World, will reward you with a combination of urban setting and open countryside. Being the Piedmont of North Carolina, there are some rolling hills, but you will be treated to a flat start and finish. In addition to 14 water stations (featuring Primo Water, lemon-lime Gatorade, sports gels and jelly beans), participants will enjoy the beautiful Emerywood neighborhood, where many homes date back to the 1930s. High Point University’s awe-inspiring campus and the “larger than life” chest of drawers are among other attractions you’ll find on the course. Marathon runners will cross over Oak Hollow Lake at mile 9 as they begin the loop that takes them into the northern part of the city and then back for a finish at the magnificent Showplace International Home Furnishings Showroom and Transportation Terminal, where you will feel like this town was built just for this marathon!
Before the race, enjoy shagging to beach music, North Carolina-style. After the race, participants will enjoy a finisher’s feast by Pepper Moon Catering, Natty Greene’s Beer Garden, live entertainment from Soul Biscuit and an awards ceremony. While your friends and family wait, the kids (accompanied by an adult) can enjoy the Children’s Activity Zone, and there will be plenty of food vendors, warm coffee and goodies for all.
Since this race benefits nine local children’s charities, you know that with each step, you are making a difference in the life of a child. In addition to enjoying the personal satisfaction of reaching your goals, you are also helping North Carolina kids reach their goals.
The UnitedHealthcare NC Marathon is honored to have Jim Morgan as the 2011 Honorary Chairman. Morgan, a three-term representative in the North Carolina House, is managing partner and attorney with Morgan, Herring, Morgan, Green and Rosenblutt, L.L.P. in High Point. Having chaired 78 nonprofit organizations, Morgan has played an active role in changing lives for years.
