The Paris of the Piedmont, that is. Le Tour de Carrboro 2012 continues with the Carrboro 10k and Carrboro Kids Classic on Oct. 6. The second race in the Le Tour series, the Carrboro 10k has been selected as the RRCA 10k State Championship race again this year. RRCA award plaques will be given to the Male and Female Open, Master, Grand Master, and Senior Grand Master winners. Age-group award winners earn unique and highly coveted pottery awards created by Chapel Hill artist Janet Resnik. All runners will receive a branded swag bag when they pick up their race number.
The races support six local nonprofits serving Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Orange County. According to John Blunk, one of the race organizers, “The growth, the race routes, the grassroots feel, and the local focus of our series makes for a great experience for our participants, as well as being beneficial to our community. Last year Le Tour de Carrboro generated $39,500 for our community partners.” Runners that complete all three events win special Le Tour branded merchandise, earning bragging rights for their accomplishment!
Le Tour races are all run within the city limits of Carrboro. This year’s Four on the Fourth had a record number of runners, and race organizers hope that the Carrboro 10k has the same success. The race starts at McDougle Middle School and showcases the unique and historic neighborhoods of Carrboro. Community support is always strong and the post-race experience is relaxed and family-friendly. The Carrboro Kids Classic ensures that even the youngest cheerleaders get their chance to run and receive a ribbon.
