EVENT PREVIEW – Reindeer Dash for Cash

Due to a fast and flat course and a hard-to-find distance, the 7th Annual Reindeer Dash for Cash has become a destination fall event that appeals to racers looking for a PR and proud moms looking for a family run. Just ask Rose Pyle-Thorton, of Apex, N.C. “There are many reasons my son and I will run this race again this year,” she says. “First, the race director, Dawn Cash-Salau, keeps runners abreast of race-day information and changes, sponsors, vendors and anything else we need to know. Also, the race raises money for an awesome cause – how great it is to be able to contribute to someone’s college education. The event is in honor of a great person, Capt. Christopher Cash, that lost his life while serving our country.”

This year’s event is Sunday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. in Greenville, N.C., and offers both 10-mile and 5k distances. There are cash awards for the top three male and female overall 10-miler finishers and unique awards sponsored by Omega Sports for the top three male and female finishers in each age group. All finishers receive a finisher medal, race T-shirt and post-race food.

If you are looking for a mid-distance race to wrap up your season, this could be it. Pyle-Thorton adds, “There are not a lot of events of this distance offered in North Carolina this time of year. My son Adam was the youngest competitor, at age 10, in the 10-mile race and he finished second in his age group, at 1:28:38, an 8:52 pace.” A proud mom, indeed.
