“If you want to try something new, what better environment could you find, than to be surrounded by all these courageous women?”

I chose to do Ramblin’ Rose after hearing about the race from three friends who had participated previously (Yvonne Hill, Adrienne Trent, and Marlene Lawson). They all had great stories about their training, learning new things, getting in shape, and making new friends. Every year I’d hear about it and I decided 2012 was the year I would try. There were so many great moments! I loved knowing that I’d see my husband (then fiance) on the course periodically and I could hear his cheers above the crowd. I loved seeing my fellow Tri It For Life training partners and how we encouraged each other throughout the race, whenever we saw each other on the course. I have always liked working out and being physically active, even if I wasn’t always consistent with it. My life is different now in that I have new ways to be physically active. I joined Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics, and now I make swimming a part of my workouts, whenever I can make time in my schedule. When the weather is warmer, I really enjoy biking. I’ve found lower impact ways to work out, without causing further injury to my knee.
“I had a pretty big fear of deep water and didn’t really know how to swim before training started. Thanks to training with Tri It For Life, I was able to conquer that fear and learn the elementary backstroke so that I could finish that portion of the race. I’m still working on that whole front crawl situation, LOL!”
