May 18-19, 2013 – Cary & Southern Pines, N.C.
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) will hold its 22nd annual North Carolina Tour de Cure, Presented by Quintiles, May 18 and 19 in Cary and Southern Pines. More than 700 cyclists from around the region will gather for the only two-day Tour de Cure in the country to help raise funds to stop this devastating disease. They will join more than 50,000 other cyclists and volunteers across the U.S. Individuals and teams composed of co-workers, family and friends are taking the ride of their life by participating in this challenging ride, all while raising money to help find a cure for diabetes, prevent the disease and improve the lives of all people living with diabetes.
The NC Tour de Cure is designed for anyone from the occasional to the experienced cyclist with routes including a two-mile Family Fun Ride, 27- and 47-mile routes, and our signature 82/164 & 104/208 Mile Rides. Our 82/104 Mile Rides are a true test of endurance – best suited for the experienced cyclist. You can opt to ride 82 or 104 miles just one day and have a friend drive you back home, or you can stay overnight in Aberdeen and ride the route in reverse back to Cary the following day. Stay overnight and you’ll enjoy a great party, delicious food, live entertainment and a good time! Again, this is the only two-day Tour de Cure in the country, so don’t miss this one-of-a–kind experience! All routes will feature rest stops with food to fuel the journey, plenty of safety and medical support, and volunteers to cheer riders on.
There are more than 26 million Americans living with diabetes, including more than 1 million in North Carolina. All proceeds from this event go to fund research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; deliver services to hundreds of communities; provide objective and credible information; and give a voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes.
