If you want a run that is out of the ordinary, join the Earl Scruggs Center’s fourth annual Rhythm & Roots Run in Shelby on Nov. 2. Participants of all ages and levels, from 5k walkers to runners looking for a challenging 10k route, will enjoy the beauty and challenge of the scenic courses.
The event will kick off at the Don Gibson Theatre with a banjo tribute to Shelby native Earl Scruggs. It will pass the Earl Scruggs Center, opening late 2013, and celebrate the rich musical heritage of the area with live music and enthusiastic volunteers throughout the routes. The 10k will pass sites such as the incredible Don Gibson memorial in historic Sunset Cemetery and Shelby City Park’s historic carousel and rotary train. The route will return to the theater, where live music and awards will celebrate participants.
