The Huntersville Half Marathon and Huntersville Holiday 5K were created by local runners for local runners. The course was designed to allow local runners the opportunity to race the streets they train on daily. The rolling hill course winds through Huntersville neighborhoods and shopping centers to showcase the community. The event is supported by local athletes, businesses and community members to give participants the opportunity to experience Huntersville as a leader in advocacy for health and wellness.

The 2013 Huntersville Half Marathon is presented by Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center for the third year; it will support the Novant Health Foundation. The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, and will start and finish at Birkdale Village in Huntersville (Exit 25 off Interstate 77) at 8 a.m. There will be two course-preview runs, hosted by Charlotte Running Club, Fleet Feet Sports and Novant Sports Medicine, that will take place on Nov. 23 and 30.

With the support of the local community, we have the opportunity to provide a quality event that is designed with the athlete in mind. Those who are not interested in the distance of a half-marathon are invited to participate in the Huntersville Holiday 5K presented by Dicks Sporting Goods. Current prices for the event are $55 for the half-marathon and $25 for the 5k. These prices will remain the same through November.

The second annual event hosted approximately 1,100 runners in the half-marathon and 5k. With the overwhelming support and success of the 2012 race, the 2013 will continue to grow. Organizers were able to make a generous charitable donation in 2012 and support the local community with economic growth and are looking forward to doing it again this year. With the support of event sponsors, all runners of the half-marathon will receive a long-sleeved Brooks running technical race shirt and unique finisher’s medal. Runners of the 5k will receive a long-sleeved cotton race shirt and finisher’s award.
