The Reindeer Dash for Cash has become one of the Southeast’s fastest 10-mile races. The race, named in the spirit after Capt. Christopher Cash, takes place in the historic town of Greenville, N.C. Cash died in battle on June 24, 2004, and his memory will forever live through the race in his name and the scholarships that it supports. Cash was full of life and he always looked for the next challenge and loved sharing it with friends and family. He consistently welcomed new people into his running and fitness life to share in life’s journey and the Reindeer Dash for Cash personifies that same vitality and innocence.

The patriotic Christmas-themed run offers a 5k and 10-mile race that begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8. From the youngsters running their first 5k to the Kenyan elites tapering for a winter marathon, the race has it all. It is not uncommon to see numerous state records broken in the 10-mile race in any given year from all different age groups. The race offers a custom-designed finisher medal (even for the 5k), keeping in theme with their purpose. The uniquely designed, good-quality T-shirt is one you will not want to miss.

The race starts and finishes at the town common in the heart of downtown Greenville. The 10-mile route travels along the greenway and through the campus of East Carolina University. Both runs finish over a wooden bridge marked by American flags and supported by the N.C. National Guard. Cash believed in helping others and the scholarships that the race supports help numerous students every year at East Carolina University, North Carolina Wesleyan College and the National Guard Education Foundation.
