“Rambin’ Rose and Tri It For Life showed me that there is no ‘typical triathlete.’ We come in all shapes, sizes and shades.”
My first ever triathlon was the Raleigh Ramblin’ Rose. It was such a good experience that I went on to do a total of six triathlons in 2013. They were all sprint distances (three were Ramblin’ Roses) and the last one I did as a relay with my husband. It was at this race that my son completed his first triathlon.
I love that we have found something that we can all do together. I’m glad that we are showing our son how important exercise is to a healthy and fulfilling life. But the biggest difference is my relationship with the women of Tri It For Life. This amazing group helped me, and countless others, achieve our dreams of becoming triathletes. They helped me realize that I can do anything! The women of TIFL are mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, wives, partners, cancer survivors, stay-at-home moms, full-time out-of-home employees, business owners, entrepreneurs, caregivers and dreamers. Our similarities make us good but our differences make us great. And, in the end, we are all triathletes.
“I could have never imagined in my wildest dreams the positive difference triathlon has made in my life. I’ve also learned to enjoy the journey along the way. While goals are important, it’s also important to remember why you started the journey. Triathlon has given me the confidence to try new things – whitewater rafting, zip-lining and joining a running group.”
