“The fact that I accomplished something that I never ever believed I could do has so inspired me.”
Having to learn to swim was my biggest obstacle to overcome. I did not know how to swim. I did not like the water. I wanted nothing to do with it. However, I said I would give it a try. After taking a few swim lessons and practicing with my daughter, etc., I was ready to give up. I told her I just couldn’t do this. I would hyperventilate in the water, get short of breath and would look like a ramblin’ (no pun intended) idiot! She kept encouraging me and told me if I would just stick with it I would turn the corner and all would be fine. I made a promise to myself that if I just got through this one triathlon I would never have to set foot in a pool again! But then, I ended up completing three triathlons last year and placed in my age group in two of them. My life is very different now in that I work out regularly and have joined swim fit at the Y and swim because I like it!
“My most memorable moment was watching the very last woman in the race cross the finish line with all of us finishers hooting and hollering for her.”
