“I’ve never done a 5k; this race was my first ever!”
I was living in Hawaii and had to move home because I was having severe health problems. I took one trip to a cardiologist and had to have emergency open-heart surgery. Doctors couldn’t believe I was still alive. That surgery saved my life. Afterward I started living a healthier lifestyle due to the nutritionist and nurses who helped me through my recovery. It gave me knowledge that I didn’t have before about what to eat and how to be healthier. Running a triathlon wasn’t an option before the surgery and wasn’t a goal during recovery, but it definitely pointed me in the right direction.
I’ve known about Ramblin’ Rose for a long time, but I never thought I would actually do it. The Endurance Facebook page also helped to encourage me to sign up. I saw the pictures and read the stories and got inspired.
“I got to the transition area and did not have my running shoes. We stopped a volunteer and she gave me her shoes. I later passed her in the race. I was literally running in her shoes … and she was cheering me on in my flip-flops. Seeing my faster friends cheering me on at the end was such a great moment.”
