The Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce is excited to offer its 10th annual Run the Quay road race, which this year includes an inaugural 10K race. This trio of races is held in historic downtown Fuquay-Varina, and both the 5k and 10k wind their way through charming neighborhoods in the southern tip of Wake County.
This year’s event will be on Saturday, June 7, and will begin at Fuquay-Varina Presbyterian Church on Ennis Street. The 10k will begin at 7 a.m., the 5k will begin at 8 a.m., and the third annual Children’s Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. Registration is already open for all three races at www.sportoften.com (search “Quay”).
Runners will be able to pick up their race packets on Friday, June 6, from 4-7 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration is highly recommended.
The race offers a wheelchair division, as well as a generous number of children’s divisions. The Fuquay-Varina Pediatrics’ Children’s Fun Run will offer two options: a 1-mile run and a 100-yard dash. This less competitive event will take place on an athletic field next to the Run the Quay venue and will be tailored to children ages toddler to 10.
This year’s race will again feature vendor booths in the race expo. Organizations can rent a 10-by-10 foot space for $100 and sell food, merchandise or both, or hand out information to race participants and their families. With the new race this year, we anticipate more than 800 registrants and their families will attend.
Information about the race is available online at the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce’s website (www.fuquay-varina.com/events). Anyone interested in sponsoring, volunteering or renting booths can call the chamber at 919-552-4947.
