Ascary Arias, 40, is originally from Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, in Mexico. He came to the United States when he was 17 and now lives in Pittsboro with his wife and four children. Arias runs a small nonprofit organization that he started in 2004 named Vidas de Esperanza. Vidas de Esperanza is dedicated to improving the lives of Latino youth in North Carolina and in rural areas of Mexico through increased access to education, technology and medical care. In celebration of his 40th birthday last year, Arias did a 40-mile run. He names the last four miles of that run as his most memorable running moment. “I was completely out of it; couldn’t really even remember where I was,” says Arias, who also used that run as an opportunity to raise funds for his nonprofit.

WHAT ARIAS HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE BULL CITY RACE FEST & FOOD TRUCK RODEO:

“I like the races like Bull City where there are a lot of participants and big crowds. I really like the atmosphere – it was a lot of fun: good crowds and lots of people cheering you on.”
