Earl Scruggs Center’s Rhythm & Roots Run 5K/10K is celebrating BIG this year! The Earl Scruggs Center opened Jan. 11, 2014, and has already been written up in The New York Times and The Washington Post. The Rhythm & Roots Run, celebrating its fifth year, is one of Runner’s World’s “18 runs to fill your race calendar” described as “awesomely unique.” Musical heritage abounds throughout uptown Shelby, North Carolina, where this event occurs.

Participants enjoy a fun 5k or 10k event with scenic routes, live music, interesting sights and enthusiastic volunteers. Start at Don Gibson Theatre with live band and banjo players performing “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” to honor Shelby native Earl Scruggs. Unique to the 10k are the Don Gibson memorial in historic Sunset Cemetery and City Park’s historic carousel and rotary train. Return to the theater to celebrate with live music and awards. Free Earl Scruggs Center admission!
