“After leaving collegiate running I still needed to compete so cycling was my outlet,” says Busche. “I still had an aerobic engine from running but, of course, my success didn’t come without a lot of hard work.”
Busche recently suffered a terrible crash that took down 19 other cyclists at the Tour of Utah. X-rays didn’t reveal any fractures for what was initially believe to be a broken collarbone. Busche made a quick recover and picked up racing again at the USA Pro Challenge in Colorado and is still hopeful for a start in Richmond.
“I’d love the honor to race for the United States again, especially here in the U.S. It doesn’t happen very often that Worlds is in your own country. It’s going to be a great event and really cool week for Richmond.”
I addition to a continued successful career in cycling, Busche is hoping for another big win in the future. His first bike, a yellow and blue Huffy, is still in his parent’s garage in Wisconsin.
“It was my brother’s first bike and then my first bike. Hopefully it will be my son Noah’s first bike but, it’s going to be a hot competition with my brother whose son is seven weeks older than mine. So, I don’t know who is going to get it. Maybe I’ll steal it before he has a chance!”
