Every day, approximately 22 former and active duty U.S. service personnel commit suicide as a result of the effects of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and CRS (Combat Related Stress). The LKN SEAL Swim’s Mission is to help veterans and their families live a more complete life and eliminate the veteran suicide epidemic by fostering the mind, body and spirit. The LKN SEAL Swim was created to help raise awareness and funds to send our Veterans through groundbreaking programs. Now, in its fourth year, the organization expects their event to be bigger and better than ever. To contribute your support to our brave warriors and service partners, sign up for the Community Swim or competitive legs of the event.
This year they are expanding the Community Swim opportunity and would love for you to sign up. The community leg of the swim is 1.2 miles – from the Blue Parrot Grill to McCrary Creek Access Area. Swimmers are required to raise a minimum of $500.00 for “SEAL Swim Charities” and be physically capable of swimming the distance. Swim assists such as fins, goggles, masks, and/or snorkels are absolutely fine. This is not a race, however, you will be swimming for those battling PTSD and CRS. Public safety vessels will be on hand as escorts and in addition to the SEALs, the event will have Navy Combat Search and Rescue Swimmers and life guards in the water to ensure everyone’s safety. For more information, please visit http://www.lknsealswim.org where you will find several documents that each swimmer will need to provide prior to the swim. Interested swimmers should return these documents to chris@SEALswimcharities.org no later than July 5, 2016.
Be sure to check out their donor page for information on the event, how to donate, volunteer opportunities or to swim in the community or competitive legs of the event.
