The Jackson River Scenic Trail Marathon follows its namesake river, winding its way between Intervale, just north of Covington, slightly past the Natural Well Trail Head to the turnaround point 13.1 miles north.
The trail follows an old railroad bed of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (Hot Springs Branch) and passes through small communities, cultivated fields, and small patches of woodland along the way. The trail is also predominately flat and is composed of smooth crushed gravel that runs adjacent to the scenic Jackson River! It’s common to see wildlife from the trail (birds, turtles, raccoons, rabbits, groundhogs, and deer).
Boston Marathon Qualifier!
The Jackson River Scenic Trail Marathon is a certified Boston Marathon qualifying race that also includes a Half Marathon, 10K & 5K. All participants receive finisher medals and age group awards including top 3 overall – male & female receive specialty awards/trophies. Refreshment stations are scattered throughout the course and turnaround points are well marked.
