Huntersville Half-Marathon and Holiday 5k Race

Dec. 3, 2011 – Huntersville, N.C.

The first Huntersville Half-Marathon and Holiday 5k race is gearing up to take place on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011. The race is brand new to the Huntersville area and has been designed by an avid runner to showcase the roads local runners fill every day. Both races will start and end in the Birkdale Village Shopping Center.

The half-marathon course covers 13.1 miles of wide low-traffic streets and rolling hills and winds through neighborhoods where runners will pass by homes, schools and churches. Although in its first year, this race has already received an outpouring of support from the local community. Water and fuel stations placed throughout the race will be serviced by various course-volunteer groups consisting of local running groups, personal-training companies and school-affiliated running clubs. Race start will be at 8 a.m. for both races and the 5k course is designed as an abbreviated version of the half-marathon course.

Since this race has been designed with the runners in mind, it is sure to provide attention to details that both experienced and beginner runners will appreciate. December historically provides moderate temperatures perfect for running and this course will allow racers a glimpse of the Lake Norman area as well as a view of the streets locals train on daily.

Beneficiaries of the Huntersville Half-Marathon and Holiday 5k are Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation and Garrett’s Wings.
